The COLT single-action is the definitive revolver. No other holds such a prominent place in the hearts and souls of American shooters. Bowen Classic Arms offers a variety of services designed to improve the function and reliability of Colt guns of recent vintage. While we work in the factory style, our goal is to build high-quality using guns. More important are the modifications that revive a measure of the grace and glory possessed by the lovely pre-war guns.

Our caliber conversions, particularly the .32-20, afford enthusiasts the opportunity to sample long unavailable chamberings. House specialties include first-rate reproductions of the elegant Flat Top Target model and the traditional custom light-weight guns of the 1930’s. All are impeccably rendered in fine metalwork.

In order to provide workmanship of the best quality, we are prepared to work only on genuine Colt (SAA only. No ‘Cowboy’ models) or USPFA revolvers fitted with hammers, triggers and other internal components of domestic manufacture. Where necessary, we will supply and fit such parts before any work is undertaken. Please contact us for the market price. No. CS01 ‘Standard Issue’ For shooters who simply want to enjoy their Colt just as it is, this package contains the modifications essential tuning and reliability including: Action/trigger tune, internal parts smoothed and polished for a soft, slick feel, pull weight set at approx. 2 1/2-3 lbs., bolt fitted properly, timing set, if need be, reduced-pressure springs (medium tension) fitted which lowers action cycle pressure and extends part service life, forcing cone checked and recut, if necessary, endfloat and headspace checked and adjusted (if required); oversize, factory- style Belt Mountain base pin installed to improve function and reliability.

No. CS02 ‘Light-weight’ SAA Model Conversion Done in the classic 30’s style with scalloped recoil fence and loading gate, narrowed frame rails and shortened barrel. A singularly handsome and handy Colt. Includes: ‘Standard Issue’ action/reliability package, 4 in. barrel with dovetail front sight (cannot be built on 4 3/4 in. guns), lightened/scalloped receiver, new barrel markings (if required), rebluing and recoloring and a black powder cylinder chamfer.

No. CS03 ‘Paradox’ ball and shot Caliber Conversion Pawnee Bill was not shooting at those little glass balls with bullets out of his .44-40 Peacemaker. He used .44-40 shotshells in choked, smoothbore barrels. Alas, the BATF frowns upon the production of such guns today. Happily, they do not frown upon our ‘Paradox’ pattern gun which will shoot both bullets and shot with equal aplomb. The special, choked rifling pattern stabilizes bullets for excellent accuracy and still shoots effective shot patterns. Perfect for the aerial or exhibition shooter. Available in either .45 Colt or .44 Paradox chambering. By virtue of the internal barrel and cylinder specifications, the parent chambering must be either in .44 Special or .44-40. Includes backboring the barrel, rechambering the cylinder, remarking the barrel and rebluing. Supplied with loading and source material. BATF approved (some state and local laws may still apply).

No. CS04 Standard Caliber Conversion Complete caliber conversions designed for serious shooters performed to the highest mechanical standards utilizing the finest materials available. Includes our custom barrel, custom cylinder, oversize base pin, complete action tune with springs, test-fire with sight regulation and reblue of the complete parts set (less receiver which can be recolored at extra cost). Available in .25-20, .32-20 and most any other appropriate caliber, including the .455. Rimfires by special order.
