THE CARTAGE WARS
As most of you know by now, UPS has imposed on the handgun
community a draconian regimen of rates and conditions for the shipment of
handgun, all under the dubious claim of increased security, particularly
when viewed in terms of effective but affordable security measures
available in the alternative. In short, all handguns, even stripped
recievers (the serial numbered component that defines the firearm), must
be shipped by Next Day Air.
Initially,we cancelled our UPS account to protest this outrage and signed
on with FDX as did many firearms industry companies. However, in view of
legitimate security concerns arising out of various FDX signature, waiver
and package release policies, we feel compelled to hold our noses and
consort again with UPS. At this writing, the situation is fluid pending
consultations with both UPS and FDX. Either carrier will usually give
satisfactory service for shipments to Bowen Classic Arms so let the market
be your guide--both firms seem perfectly willing to participate in these
abusive rate policies. In the near term, we will utilize UPS for most
residential deliveries and FDX ocassionally for certain business
deliveries. We hope to negotiate some volume discounts for shipping which
we will share with our customers. Books will probably be shipped via the
USPO unless UPS or FDX produce competitive 2-3 day rates. In any event, if
